3-4pm, Room B103: Comics Studies Conference 5: Boilerplate: History of a Victorian Era Robot
Anina Bennett and Paul Guinan’s Boilerplate: History’s Mechanical Marvelspoofs history by presenting a Victorian era robot interacting with historical figures like Teddy Roosevelt, Nikola Tesla, and Mark Twain. Lester Spence (John Hopkins University) and Peter Coogan (Institute for Comics Studies) and Ay-leen the Peacemaker (New York University & Beyond Victoriana) join Anina and Paul to discuss the joys of counterfactual history.
